It is very time consuming to have to upload the images and then go back over them one by one to assign meaningful names (other than the numeric ones your digital camera gave them) and I don't think I am going to be able to persuade my site users to do this as a two-step process.

So I would like to see an extra field in the "Upload photo(s)" admin template where we can define our image name at the same time as we upload it.

It would also be nice if that naming field had a character restriction on it too, so my site users don't ugly-up my category display page with long names that distort the image spacing.

Thanks for considering my idea.

Cheers,
Zana

Ok, but for zip files and directory scans, this will result in photo's having the same name right? or am I misunderstanding what you mean

Ah, that's a very good point. So maybe one of the following would resolve that problem:

1. Make the form so that if user activates the "Upload zip archive" or "Directory scan" field then the "Add title" field becomes disabled

2. Make title names uploaded from "Upload zip archive" or "Directory scan" give sequential photo titles such as "Bollywood 1", "Bollywood 2", "Bollywood 3", etc etc

Personally I would vote for Option 1 because I never mass upload photos and people who do probably don't not care about unique titles because who would want to rename 500 images after uploading (not me that's for sure LOL)

I just think that saving an extra step having to "Name" individual photo titles would be a welcome feature, and to tell you the truth, I would not care so much about this issue if EasyGallery did not autoname them with the file extension as part of the name. Most of my images are already named by their intended title before I upload them, so the majority of my title edits are just to remove the file extension - cos that looks really fugly in a title on your page.

Perhaps autonaming by filename WITHOUT file extension included in the Name would be a simple solution that would suit everybody? Or a combination of that and Option 1 to give simgle-image uploaders a choice.

What do you think Adam?
