When you're trying to upload one or more images you could run into this error: 

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: ftp_connect() in /joomla/administrator/components/com_easygallery/classes/ftp.php on line 32

This means that your hosting provider has disabled the ftp functionality that is part of php by default. Contact your host to see if they can enable it.

Easy Gallery uses ftp to avoid safe_mode issues and ownership issues.
